True Origin Partnerships Welcome 3 Year Grant to Support Women Farmers in Eswatini

True Origin Partnerships are delighted to be able to support the work of the Woman Farmer Foundation in Eswatini with a three year grant from the awesome Unicorn Grocery in Manchester.

The funds will be used to enable more students to benefit from their Innovative Climate Smart Youth Tunnel Farming Project which aims to train young farmers in sustainable (both environmentally and financially) agriculture.

Climate smart farming technologies such as production in tunnels or under shade nets allow high value crops to be grown in controlled environmental conditions that help mitigate the effects of climate change.

The aim of the project is to improve job security and income for rural young people by developing young farmers into agri-preneurs who can inspire and mentor their communities to mitigate the effects of rural poverty and climate change.

The four tunnels used for training and demonstrations. Water conservation and recycling are taught.

This is the area for irrigation water overflow that is collected and re-used for orchard irrigation.

Learners hard at work with soil preparation.

Planting is done in sawdust packed in polythene bags. This enables planting of the same crop in the space avoiding the occurrence of soilborne diseases.

Engaging classroom session where learners are all free to participate in the learning activity.

The Unicorn Grocery 4% fund supports projects addressing problems arising from unfair world trade and regulations, poverty and unsustainable agriculture. They aim to fund projects that create ecologically and socially sustainable livelihoods, generally on s small scale, where communities and individuals are empowered to support themselves.
